All we lack is finishing

With the proverbial cat being away this week there’s been more progress with all things plumbing and bathroom. The shower was built, pan installed and tiling has begun. The new water heater was set in place and plumbed, and we now have water again. …Leak free water, to be accurate. I didn’t think it was actually possible to run new plumbing and not have leaks, but hey, there’s something to be learned every day, I guess. Miracles do happen.

However, somehow the plan for the shower tile trim/border/whatever you want to call it was lost in translation and we ended up going from this:

To this:

I’m not going to lie, I do think that what Kelly had requested is a little more “universal” or “unisex” but I still think what’s been done looks good.  Hard to believe that with all this technology to facilitate communication that we can get some details lost in the mix, but oh well.  I’m still satisfied with how it looks.  I’m excited to see it all come together (and to not have to put on those kneepads to do it myself).  I guess there’s another run to the tile store in my future, but worse things have happened.
While all that was going on inside, the real work was going on outside.  Rest assured, it’s starting to get hot.  Painting trim continued and nears completion and the stickers have been removed from the windows (apparently that needed done ASAP).  Bask in the blue/white glory.

Piping

All of the old corroded metal pipes are out and the cold water PVC is in:

Hopefully the hot water and sewer will be complete tomorrow. We found out today that the old water heater was split, so we will be replacing that :) also, we have to change the layout of the new bathroom because of how the foundation is laid out. Here are some pics of the framing:

This is the view from the bedroom, to the right will be closet, on the left of the new wall toward the window will be the toilet (tank against the framing).

This is the view to the left from the bedroom; framing for the new shower.

Finally, it looks like the support beam that runs the length of the house will need to be jacked up/reinforced. Good times!

Drop it Like it's Hot

We BLEW UP our credit card this weekend, it was epic! We bought a ton of stuff at Home Depot and Floor and Decor to get us started. Home Depot made a delivery Saturday morning:

Unfortunately they didn't 'accidentally' leave the crated riding lawn mower at our house. After the truck dropped it all off in the driveway we carried it all in to the house. Then we hit floor and decor. We are going with a light tile in the front entry area and in the kitchen:

We are thinking wood base cabinets and white upper cabinets kind of like below (we have a different layout) and marble hex as the backsplash:

And in the new bathroom we are going to try and keep the existing wood floors and then use gray penny round tile as a border in the shower with larger white subway tile and the gray penny round on the shower floor:

It looks like we are going to be replacing all of the existing plumbing with PVC which will take at least three days. It would be awesome of we could have all of the framing, electrical and plumbing completed this week/end, but I think that's pretty optimistic :)

So Close!

We are really close to being able to put humpty dumpty back together again! We had another productive weekend with Ma and Pa Steele.  Randy and I worked on some blue trim last week and Ma Steele did a mean cream paint job on the porch and our new custom screen door and windows:

I'm pretty sure we finished all of the big demo this weekend too, no more wall! Or guest bathroom cupboard over the tub or vanity, etc. and we pulled up the old laminate flooring in the new bathroom/closet and demoed the old closet:

I think the walls in the existing bathroom are some thin plywood material with a thin laminate layer over the top.

Picture of the twins resting after a long day.  Crack.me.up.

On Sunday we swept up a lot of the mess and Randy took it to the dump.

We are worn out. All for a rotten sill :) maybe next weekend we will get to the stuff we were supposed to do this weekend. Below are some in process photos:

Epic Fail

We are not awesome at replacing windows. We will give it another shot tomorrow. Replacing these wasn't in our original plan, but the sill was completely rotted out and the windows had to be removed to replace the wood. We replaced the rotten wood with new PT wood and it was a bit too substantial and made our opening too small; we will probably replace the 2 x 6 sill with 1 x 6 tomorrow.  So, there's that.
