And it keeps going. Removal was relatively easy-going in the original area of the kitchen. However, it s-u-c-k-e-d in the addition area connecting the kitchen to the laundry/garage. The new parquet was adhered to the concrete with some sort of industrial strength liquid nails. this gave us all the nudge we needed to buy an air compressor and pneumatic chisel. We have just poured and spread an adhesive remover; we'll see how that goes. The entire area is definitely going to need a new layer of thin-set or something to even out the area.
